Welcome to our new site!

Hope you like it. We’re hoping the new site format will help us to keep users of the Lido up to date and involved with the activtities and developments. Plus you can keep in touch with us by giving your feedback by commenting on individuals posts.

To get things started here’s a list of current ongoing work:

  • Sand to be added to beach in the Spring
  • Path to be raised where it now floods
  • Lido water tested on a regular basis
  • Rain shelter being built
  • Upgrade playgroung equipment

Items under review are:

  • Car park charging
  • Water feature/splash area beach side
  • Cycle racks

We’ll post more details on the above as each item develops.

And if you haven’t noticed the Ruislip Lido Woodland Centre at the Boathouse end of the Water’s Edge Pub has been refurbished and will be open Sundays 10 till 3pm and occasional days in the week when staffing permit.

Dear Mr Hofstetter

Thank you for your enquiry regarding fishing and swimming in the Lido. We’ve updated the site to show the rules and regulations.

Why is it there are so many rules for anglers to follow when those people who use the beech area leave tin’s , bottles , nappies, disposible Bar,B,Q’s and all manor of treats for those who have to clean up.And how many times have I seen glasses from the pub on the beech and the concrete wall from the boat house to the beech,I’ve lost count. But anglers must not do anything to upset or offend other users of the Lido.
As a responsible angler who has enjoyed fishing at the Lido on and off for the past 40 years and who invariably takes home more rubbish than I arrive with,I feel offended by the behavior of some of the other users and the lack of rules governing their behaviour.I shall however continue to fish te Lido, and be glad that this fascility exists for us to enjoy.

Yours
Martin Goupillot

Hi Martin - I share your frustration! The Friends of Ruislip Lido is a voluntary organisation committed to making the Lido a better place but unfortunately can’t control the behaviour you witness of certain individuals; it seems there are now two species of humans, those that show care and consideration and those that couldn’t give a damn.

I’m glad you enjoy the Lido and thanks for picking up the litter from others.

Hi Mark ….I think you missed one of the points I was making, as normal all the rules are aimed at the anglers and not at the public in general.
Quote; Anglers are not allowed B,B,Q’s on the bank..Why only anglers.
Are not allowed to use boat’s..yet last Saturday I witnessed a man with two young children in the water in the corner in front of the boat house with two canoe’s..a ranger on a bike told him this was not allowed because of water quality, then rode off no attempt was made to tell him it was against the rules.
Or as it would seem these rules are only for anglers,as if there isn’t enough for us to worry about when getting stoned by the charming little people that also visit the Lido, for the purpose of wrecking it , if you want further detail’s please contact me on my email address.
Yours Martin

Hi Martin

As an avid visitor to the lido, a place I visit on average twice a day walking my dog, the rules and regs re barbeques are there for everyone and there are signs at the entrance to the lido as well as on the beach and Willow lawn. The bank is stipulated for anglers as this is the only place anglers can fish.

I can not comment on the ranger on his bike, but I have been there when the rangers have dealt with dog walkers who let their dogs go in the water near nesting birds or allowing their dogs to be off the lead in areas where the signage very clearly states “dogs must be kept on the lead”. The rangers do not shirk their responsibilities and spend a good deal of their day cleaning up after others - litter, broken glass and used barbeques discarded in the water.

No one is “getting at” the anglers, the rules are there for everyone who uses the lido, and if more visitors adhered to them the rangers wouldn’t have to waste their time cleaning up and everyone would have a far more beautiful environment to enjoy.

Nicky
