I vote AGAINST boats on the Lido. I feel they would adversely affect the birds which are such a feature. Perhaps a small ENCLOSED area for kiddie's hand pedalos such as was there some years ago would be acceptable BUT modern hooligans would have a fine time trashing it. Perhaps that would be the franchise holder's problem and not ours.

Thank you for your recent information. I wondered, does the waters edge manager ever take any interest in what the lido helpers do, I only remark on this as when I have sat outside the waters edge for a drink it is often litter and bottle/glass strewn, sometimes early morning where it has not been properly cleared from the night before. It seems a shame when you and the volunteers put in so much work for free, and their employees do not seem interested in rubbish on their premises. Regarding boats, I remember when there were boats and water skiing on the lido, it depends on what the priorities of the lido should be, personally I'm for the wild life, unless the boats go in a limited area roped off perhaps or even pedalos, but not disturbing the birds areas.

I love the Lido to bits, especially early in the morning - sleepy swans, rabbits, quiet water - and even more since I moved within shouting distance a few years ago. And also for the childhood memories, of which rowing was a favourite. However, I agree with the council and say NO to boats - there are boats at Rickmansworth aren't there, so I think it's quite reasonable for the Lido to remain a haven for wildlife. It's taken a few years to make it the beautiful place it is, it would be such a shame to risk wrecking it all now. And there's a family theme to the place: beach, water fountains, swings, train - let's keep it that way.

I am in full agreement with all the above comments, with regard to the reintroduction of boats on the Lido. As far a I can recall, when boats were last on the Lido, was when the site was secure and not open to anybody 24hrs a day.

have lived within walking distance of lido all my life.have seen many changes.but now they are for the good.its a wildlife haven and who are we to spoil it for the beautiful birds etc that grace the shoreline.NO TO BOATS. if you want it back to a neglected place ,vandals would soon oblige.the children have a lovely place now to enjoy themselves.its a pity people arent made more aware about dangers of litter to these beautiful birds.its a shame its not shut with gates at night so no disturbance for the birds.

I, like, some others remember the skiing on the lake but do not favour a re-introduction of boating. As you say it has been a successful breeding year and, hopefully, the lake can go on from strength to strength, nature wise, and boating will be detrimental to that due to the knock on effect, on the whole of the lake.

I must say I am ambivalent as to the boats, I enjoyed, with my friends, many great days rowing around the Lido. With regard to the Cycle Path, great news it is NOT going to come within the Lido grounds, but where is it planned to be going? Any info?
Cheers

There is a major conflict coming, with regard to the Lido. It was not successful as a source of water for the Grand Junction Canal Company, it was a brilliant success, under the Ruislip/Northwood Urban District Council, as a tourist destination of outstanding facilities. LBH allowed the run-down and ultimate destruction of the Lido. Now we have the battle as to whether it is a Nature Reserve, which seems to be the preferred choice of many long term visitors to the site, or is it once again a major tourist destination, which seems to be the preference of our remote councillors at the Civic Centre.
One thing for sure, the Cycle Path MUST not be allowed to run across the Poors Field or Common.
