Oh the weather outside is frightful… especially for the bird life at Ruislip Lido, the water is frozen so the waterfowl can’t feed from the weeds along the shore line and the grass is covered in snow so they can’t feed off from the grass areas.
Sean has found a number of birds in very poor condition, literally just curled up waiting to die. The swans have had to be rescued by Sean and the other lido wardens (Derek and Richard) from along Reservoir Road as they have been so hungry they went off in search of food.
Friend of Ruislip Lido has provided high energy food for the birds which Sean puts down for them twice a day; this has stopped the birds from wandering off. This food doesn’t fatten the birds; bread which is brought by the visitors will do this for the birds.
Originally 18 bags were given to Sean, as of today he has 9 left and with this bad weather set to continue for longer FORL will provide more food.
