Water level at Ruislip Lido

I would like to clarify the Friends position on the water level at the Lido. It has come to my attention that Hillingdon Council have claimed that we asked for the water level to be raised and that we had an input into what the level should be.

This is totally incorrect. The Friends of Ruislip Lido have asked that the water level be properly managed and that the water is not just allowed to be let out without some monitoring.

We have especially requested that during certain times of the year it is maintained at a constant level; this being frog and toad spawning and the nesting season. However what that level is, is a matter for the engineers not us. We just want them to manage it properly during the Winter negating the need to drain it during the Spring unless of course necessary due to unforeseen weather conditions.

We have challenged the remarks made by the council at the Management Advisory Group.

FORL AGM – THE GREEN BOATHOUSE, RUISLIP LIDO – THURSDAY 9TH JUNE 2011 @ 7.30PM

It is an opportunity for us to update you on current issues, for you to give your views and for us all to meet for a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. There will of course be the voting in of the committee and all positions are open to nominations, the positions are:

  • CHAIR
  • VICE CHAIR
  • MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY
  • TREASURER
  • EXECUTIVE MEMBERS

If you would like to either be considered or nominate someone for one of these roles please get in touch by post to FORL c/o 17 STANFORD CLOSE RUISLIP, HA4 7RP by 21st MAY 2011.

I am aware some of you have tried to get in touch with us by phone or e mail and I am sorry if we have not got back to you but I take this opportunity to update you briefly.

The Council were forced to retract their planning application for the overspill car park due to opposition and errors in the application. However this was a temporary act and they will be re submitting it when the environment agencies have completed their reports. We still have almost 1000 signatures on a petition against this car park and this will stand during the resubmission.

Staffing is an issue of concern. We have raised this to the Council and will continue to do so. If you see rubbish or antisocial behavior in the area report it to the Council, could you also put a comment on our website so we can use factual incidents rather than anecdotal stories, it makes our position so much stronger.

We held a litter-pick on 19th APRIL and even though it was a week day we had a great turn out and collected 23 black sacks of rubbish!! Thank you so much to everyone who helped. We will set another date soon.

Lastly a reminder of the AGM – please do join us, if you have a little spare time and could assist us on the committee let me know.

Ruislip Lido enhancement project – Update – March 2011 from Hillingdon Council

Water level feasibility study
The Flood Risk Assessment Report for Ruislip Lido has been finalised and submitted to the Environment Agency for their consideration. The Report will be published once a response from the Environment Agency has been received.

Proposed overflow car park
The timings of the 21 day re-consultation for the proposed overflow car park will be published as soon as a date has been established.

Proposed loading restrictions
As a result of officers working with residents to resolve their concerns, one objection received in response to the consultation has now been withdrawn. Officers will continue to discuss the concerns raised by a second resident in the hope that a satisfactory conclusion can be reached.

Dates for your diary

Tuesday 19 April at 9am – 10.30am litter picking – if you can spare 90 minutes please help us to clear the litter which is building up along the shore line. We are meeting in the car park and refreshments will be served after the pick

Thursday 9 June at 7.30pm AGM – Meeting in the Green Huts – come and join us for a catch-up on issues at the Lido, meet other FORL members and have a glass of wine.

Meeting report

Our meeting in January was a huge success, we would like to thank PC Simon Underwood for a very informative talk around the Dangerous Dogs Act. I gave an update to our members around the Council plans and that at this stage there is little going on. We await the full environmental report to see what if any of there proposals are feasible and then if they resubmit the planning permission we will act accordingly.

We held a vote with all those present at the meeting and there was a unanimous decision for the Friends of Ruislip Lido to have two priorities.

  1. Campaign to get Sean reinstated as permanently based and responsible for the Lido.
  2. To continue the fight against the proposed car park at the back of Willow Lawn.

I would like to thank every one for their continued support and look forward to the Summer months.

Feed the birds

Due to the severe drop in temperature and icy conditions the Friends of Ruislip Lido have purchased a number of ‘mixed corn’ sacks.

The wildfowl are being fed from this corn supply twice a day in order to build up their strength and help them survive this inclement snap.

We will continue to do so as long as the harsh winter conditions persist.

Planning Proposal Withdrawn

Great news!

The current proposal for car parking at the Lido has been withdrawn and Hillingdon Council will have to re-submit their planning application to incorporate ‘access & exit points’, identify a new flood plain area to compensate for building on the current flood plain.

The FORL petition will still be valid for any future planning application hearing. A date for the new Planning Hearing has yet to be set but we will post the date once we have heard back from the Council.

A big thank you to all members of the Friends of Ruislip Lido for your support in raising objections to the original, ill-conceived proposals.
